Past Projects
In 2004, 30 community leaders convened to discuss the need to expand the impact of Streetscape in the community. The result was CityScape, which was established in 2005 as a board-led nonprofit organization. CityScape’s goal is to revitalize Youngstown’s downtown and gateways through beautification, education and historic preservation. Here are past projects completed by CityScape:
2001: Streetscape 2001: A LandScape Odyssey
West Boardman and Champion Street “Garden Bunker” restoration

2002: Red, White & Bloom
John Young Memorial, Oak Hill and Spring Common
2003: Planting for the Future
Smoky Hollow Memorial maintenance and expansion

2004: Seeds of Change
Federal St. Median landscaping and irrigation

2005: Watch Youngstown Grow
Central Square: Landscaped crescent beds, purchased pots. Installed irrigation system and permanent walkway around Veterans Memorial

2006: Planting Pride in Youngstown
- Major clean-up of Walnut Street, Rayen Ave. and Choffin Hillside-New landscaped bed, irrigation system at Police Memorial on Peace Bridge
- John Young Memorial (Partnership with The Mahoning Commons Assn.)
- Expansion, irrigation at John Young Memorial
- Preservation Committee conducted trolley tour of Mahoning Avenue
- BBB Shredding Day
2007: CityScape Projects
Begin Work on Federal St. to construct the third wall in the “Bunker Area”
Preservation Projects:
- Fall bus tour of historic churches
- Installation of historic markers on Central Square
- Creation of self-guided tour brochure for downtown Youngstown
